Cheese of the Week - Meadow Creek Dairy Grayson
Located in the mountains of southwestern Virginia, Meadow Creek Dairy is a small family farm dedicated to sustainable agriculture. Using a system called intensive grazing management, Meadow Creek ensures that the herd is enjoying fresh pasture from Spring through Fall. This system of seasonal rotational grazing makes for cheese that truly reflects the local terroir cultivated on the farm. Grayson is one of the best American cheeses, a perennial crowd-pleaser. The ruddy washed-rind enshrouds a gorgeous golden yellow semi-soft pâte, which is incredibly deep in flavor, simultaneously fruity and buttery, with hints of the local grasses and legumes that the cows feed on. This cheese is proof that happy cows make happy cheese. Set me up with some Grayson, a glass of Albariño, and CD of Bill Monroe, and I'll be in heaven. Cheese by Hand has a great write-up on the farm if you crave more information.

where to get Grayson
Looks like you can mail-order it from both Artisanal and Murrays.

Sorry, I forgot to put down a name for myself in earlier post. By the way, I've looked for it locally and can't seem to find it.
So, Albariño good?

But where can I buy it?? I want to send a wheel to OR, but Meadow Creek adds a $20 handling fee. Ack -- is it really THAT hard to handle??
Shipping cost comment
[Disclaimer: I work for the dairy, just came across this post in a random vanity search]
The shipping costs to OR aren't ours; we don't even add any handling fees for the packaging and ice. That cost is all UPS 3-Day Select service, which is rather painful. Believe me, we know. The problem with anything West of Texas is that ground shipping would have the cheese sit in an unrefrigerated warehouse over the weekend. In our experience, the cheese rarely if ever survives the added two-day travel time, so we have to go to the next level of service.
You're welcome to check our website for local retailers, but if you're on the West coast, your best bet may be contacting our distributors there: Tomales Bay or Cheeseworks West.
OMG!!
this cheese is awesome. Anne at Saxelby Cheese made me a sandwich at the shop on some Ciabatta. I highly recommend.
